| The pups are now playing with each other - grabbing ears, biting at each other, pouncing and swatting. Watching them in great entertainment! They're balancing on a wobbly air-filled balance trainer...one day the smooth side is up, the next day the bumpy side is up. The boy goes right across it if I call him, he makes no detour. The girl will start across it then take a different route to me. Toys are to be killed and they drag them around - one pup drags, the other tries to grab or pounce on it. If an adult steals the toy, they are miffed! Everything is in the 'tasting stage' now - everything is licked or goes into their little mouths. My pants-leg is tugged on. The adult dogs' tails are tugged on. They are starting to learn their names....I keep calling the boy Merlin, instead of Jazz. I guess his call name will be Merlin. The girl is Magic. Both come "running" (they are getting more sure and steady of themselves) when I call "pup-pup-pup". Toenails are being trimmed, brushing and combing is an every-other-day event. We start puppy baths toward the end of week 5. They are eating kibble and meat and doing great. (I do not make mushy meals for puppies - I know a lot of folks do, but my pups have never needed coaxing to eat .) They still nurse from Queenie, and weaning is left up to her. It's an exciting part of their life to watch them explore and develop skills, and become not-so-wobbly. They are now asking to go outside first thing in the morning --- potty training is coming along. Weight at 5 weeks: Magic - 29.2 oz, and Jazz (also called Merlin) - 25.1 oz. | |
